Location

Patagonia Mágica has its head office in El Chaltén, Patagonia, Argentina. Patagonia is the south end region of South America covering both Chile and Argentina. El Chaltén is in Santa Cruz province, at the northern end of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. Is the gateway for climbers and trekkers and visitors who come to gaze in awe at Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre

El Chalten is a new town, set within sight of imposing Fitz Roy and with a backdrop of snow capped peaks, dating only from 1985. Originally a military outpost, today it is growing rapidly and great efforts are being taken to see that it grows up with a charm and character befitting to the spectacular but remote setting. There is an atmosphere of "frontier" and stories of the original pioneers are captivating.

Getting to El Chaltén:

Check flights from your area to Buenos Aires or other locations in Argentina such as San Carlos de Bariloche, Comodoro Rivadavia, Rio Gallegos or Ushuaia. From there, by domestic airline with regular flights to Calafate International Airport.

We can meet you at the airport of El Calafate or at downtown area in El Calafate offering you the shuttle service to El Chaltén. There is 230 km distance from Calafate to El Chaltén, more than half of it is paved.

Though, if you want to get to El Chaltén on your own, there are connections with transportation companies directly to El Chaltén by bus: (daily service)

# Cal – Tur: Leaving at 7:30am and 6pm.
# Chaltén Travel: Leaving at 8am and 7pm.
# Los Glaciares: Leaving at 7:30pm.
Duration: from the city of El Calafate, it takes approximately 3 and a half hours.

If you prefer traveling by bus from Buenos Aires to Comodoro Rivadavia (there to Perito Moreno and El Chaltén) or to Rio Gallegos and from there to El Calafate and to El Chaltén. If you are traveling from Bariloche the best option is the legendary route 40 which has its own charm driving along the Andes through the steppe among sheep estancias. There are buses and vans serving this line with some you have to change buses in Esquel and Perito Moreno.

Although El Chaltén is small, it is amply supplied with places to sleep ranging from camping sites to three star hotels, and restaurants.

Patagonia Mágica head office is located around the corner of San Martin street of El Chalten on Fonrouge street (no number) which is in front of the local brewery "El bodegón de Chaltén". It is 3 blocks away from Lago del Desierto ave. heading to Rio Blanco basecamp from El Calafate route. in front of Patagonia Mágica head office is the Firemen station. Here you can locate it at the street map of El Chaltén town. (In Chaltén there are still many streets with no names, it is a very young town yet!)
