Glacier hike

Duration: 1 day
Difficulty: Moderate
Season: October to April

Hiking over cerro Torre glacier with crampons where the ice hits the rock, between cracks and open holes by the water. An amazing experience! No previous experience required just some fitness for hiking about 12 hours. (For the glacier hike we require at least 10 years old).

During the summer months of January and February, there is more melting so we may have to cross wider cracks in the ice which might slow us down. In March it is colder so the ice stops moving and occasional snowfalls cover the ice with a thin, soft blanket.


Itinerary:

Day 1:
Departure from Chaltén at 7 AM. Trek to Laguna Torre Base Camp (2 and a half hours). We cross the tyrolean rope over the Fitz Roy River, wearing harnesses.

After walking an hour and a half we arrive to the Glacier, where we practice trekking with crampons, ice climbing over the Glacier.

Time: approximately 12 hours.

Includes: gear (ropes, crampons, harnesses), guide and guide's assistant(s).
Not included: meals, lodging, tips, transfers, personal equipment
Daily trips: Groups up to 6 passengers, personalized guiding services.

Note: Going up to the glacier, hiking with crampons through it and then returning to El Chaltén in the same day, might be for some people to tough. In this case we recommend you to stay for the night at base camp so you have 2 and a half hours less trekking in one day. (We just arrange in the morning a meeting point at base camp if you stay the night before)
