This traverse will immerse us into the South Ice Cap. You don't have to
be a climber nor a super sport guy to participate in this adventure. Great
expedition surrounding Fitz Roy and Torre ranges, crossing through Marconi,
Viedma and Tunel glaciers
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival to Chalten. Meeting
with the mountain guides at our office where we check the personal gear. (D)
Day 2: Transfer to Rio Electrico, hike to Piedra del Fraile
and camp at La Playita, wading Pollone river. Camp 1. Trekking time: 6 hrs. (B-L-D)
Day
3: Hike to Paso Marconi. 1450 mtrs. (Entry to the Ice Cap), through
Marconi glacier. This day we put our crampons, ropes, harnesses and ice
axes. From now on our camps will be set up over the ice or snow. Camp
2. Trekking time: 7 hrs. (B-L-D)
Day 4: Paso Marconi - Circo de los Altares traverse, camp
in the middle of the Ice Cap. (Viedma Glacier), with an incredible view
of Fitz Roy and Torre ranges. Camp 3. Trekking time: 6 hrs. (B-L-D)
Day 5: Circo de los Altares - Laguna de los Esquies traverse.
Great view of Mariano Moreno range, Cerro Luca and South Ice Cap. Camp
4. Trekking time: 6hrs. (B-L-D)
Day 6: Hike Laguna de los Esquies - Paso del Viento - Laguna
Toro, through Tunel glacier and Tunel valley. Camp 5. Trekking time:
7 hrs. (B-L-D)
Day 7: Back to Chalten through Loma del Pliegue Tumbado.
Trekking time: 6 hrs. (B-L)
Days 8 and 9: Extras days in case of bad weather.
Note: We do our best to adhere to the schedule listed above, however
this itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions.
Includes: gear (ropes, crampons, harnesses),
mountain guide and guide's assistant(s). transfers, camping lodging,
meals as quoted (L: lunch, D: dinner, B: breakfast) with non alcoholic
beverages. Also group equipment: tents, stoves, technical gear, first
aid kit, GPS, and radio.
Not included: personal gear, clothes, boots, sleeping bag,
backpack, hotel lodging, phone calls, insurance, beverages and meals not detailed, porters and tips.
NOTE: You will have to carry a 15/18 kilos backpack. We will share
the general gear and food. (Personal porters may be hired at extra expense
fee).
